#Name; Bon Bon
#Age ; 16
#Gender ; Female
#Occupation ; Student, podcaster
#Alignment ; Unaligned
#Physique ; Average height, curvy and a little broad-shouldered, but surprisingly strong. A little bit on the plump side.
#Hair color and style ; Cool pink and navy blue, curled in the front and the back, hanging halfway down her shoulder blades. Has a soft, "poofy" texture.
#Eye color ; Robin’s Egg blue.
#Clothing ; Bon Bon likes bright colors—cream colors, yellows and light blues are her favorites, but she’s also known to rock whites, greens, pinks, and reds in any number of combinations. She has a penchant for things with ruffles, frills, trims, and other feminine accoutrements, and generally only dresses “down” to jeans and a hoodie if she’s sick or staying at home. She doesn’t generally dress all the way up, though; comfy and cute are more her forté than classy. You won’t find her in much higher than wedge heels. Since her clothes are usually at a risk for getting stained by cooking, she also has a wide range of novelty aprons—“Kiss the Cook,” “I Hope You Like Unicorn,” “Here’s Looking At You, Squid” and other strange jokes hidden under layers of mystery stains from years of cooking.
#Personality ;Bon Bon is, in a word (or two), peachy keen. She's got a personality like just-shy-of-ripe fruit—a little tough and chewy, but soft and sweet all the same. Easy to befriend but a bit more difficult to get really, properly close to, as there's only so much room in her heart and she's rather picky about who she lets in. If you get there, though, you're there forever, just like if you make an enemy of her you can expect the grudge to be shouldered for a good long while. Some call it stubbornness, but she calls it being a judge of character; unfortunately, if she judges someone to be good when she shouldn't, this can make her rather blinded to their faults.
She takes after her father in a lot of ways. Practical, methodical, and more than a little bit blunt, she's got a good head on her shoulders and a solid work ethic. Good with numbers and spreadsheets, but you wouldn't think it; she's book smart but wary of being seen as an "egghead" like she was in her youth. She puts on an easygoing attitude sometimes, but she's really pretty sensitive. Not hard to hurt her with the right set of words.
Responsibility and accountability are important to her, and she sees it as more important—personally—to be reliable than to be extraordinary. Nurturing is the name of the game to her, and she can spend a lot of energy toward taking care of others before she thinks about taking care of herself.
She has a lot of patience for nonsense, but that doesn't make her a pushover; knock her and she knocks back, knock her friend and she knocks you three times as much. But if she figures all you're doing is being charmingly eccentric rather than actively malicious, she'll give you all the chances you need to make a proper first impression. Of course, this can get abused; she's known to give people more chances than they deserve, and she can be a sucker for someone with a nice enough attitude. Straight-up jerks, though, don't get her time of day and she encourages others to do the same.
Still, Bon Bon isn't a total stick-in-the-mud. When she's in her element she has a goofy, sometimes weird sense of humor that's as likely to result in a slew of horrible Dad Jokes as it is to inspire her to build a pressurized PVC candy-cannon. (The latter of which resulted in what was simultaneously the best birthday party ever, and the longest post-party cleanup ever.) This side to her is either very subtle or very not, depending on the situation and how well you know her.
#History ;Bon Bon was born in Ponyville, the daughter of a writer and a small business owner; while her father is a serious, practical-oriented man with a mind for numbers, her mother was always had her head in the clouds a bit, and it shows in her disorganized, if whole-hearted approach to life. They never had a terribly hard time making ends meet, as her father’s career was well underway by the time she came around and the cleaning service her mother managed was always in some manner of demand. They have a nice place in the suburbs, not too far from the town proper, with a well-kept lawn and a pup in the backyard. It might be a little picket-fenced, but it’s what suits them.
Though she was a precocious and happy child for her first handful of years, Elementary didn’t start off well for her. She needed corrective lenses at a young age, and braces after that—combined with the fact she had frumpy clothes, a strong aptitude in math and a bit of a lisp, she was the quintessential “nerd girl” and had a hard time getting into any social circles. It wasn’t long before her posture took on a stoop and she gave up hiding her lisp. The other kids were just gonna tease her about it anyway, might as well not bother.
However, at some point, she met a girl—Lyra Heartstrings. They had a bit of a rocky start, but after wrists were slapped and apologies were made, they became fast friends. They rode bikes, played games, and enjoyed each other’s company when no one else would. Lyra single-handedly brought Bon Bon out of her shell at school, and showed her what it was like to have a true, steadfast friend.
However, after 6th grade, she suddenly and unexpectedly moved away—leaving Bon Bon to face the next few years alone. She still hates remembering the first day of 7th grade, as it was one of the loneliest of her entire life. For the rest of the semester she was moody and withdrawn (to the surprise of absolutely no one, as she was a 7th grade girl hitting the bad half of puberty).
But she knew as well as anyone she couldn’t just stay that way, especially since she was no longer the baby in the family. So, in the time between middle and high school, Bon worked toward making some changes. She got her braces off, traded in her glasses for a pair of contact lenses, and started working for some spending money so she could buy her own clothes, instead of just wearing whatever mom and dad got her. She made an effort to be more social and outgoing—and though it didn’t make her any less anxious, she did manage to expand her world a bit more and make some friends.
It might’ve seemed mundane to most, but Bon Bon was coming into her own and figuring out who she wanted to be. She never bothered trying on a bunch of different personas, because she knew she didn't need to—she had a good idea of who she was from a young age, for better or worse, and she was trying to be a better, more sympathetic version of that. Having her younger sister helped, too; she wanted to be someone Sweetie could look up to and see as a good role model, and that remains one of her prime motives.
Still, it was tough. The pressures of schoolwork, friendships, family, and her own conflicts of self all weighed on her. She had always been known to take too much on herself, and high school was looking to be no different. Until homeroom, at least. Having a name starting with "B" on both ends, she was one of the first names on roll call; and it hadn't been out of the teacher's mouth five seconds before someone was screaming and flapping their arms in the back of class. Shockingly, it was Lyra; unshockingly, no one else in class cared about their reunion, so they were soon told to shush off from their screaming and hugging so that everyone could study in peace.
Things had changed, of course. For both of them. Catching up took a while, and sorting through some of the weeds and brambles that had grown around them since then took longer, but they remained steady and solid friends. Having Lyra back made school not just tolerable, but actually something to look forward to and be excited about again, instead of just a path to one day get into a good college. Her passions—cooking and baking—still mostly take place at home, but she's always had a head for numbers, so math and science remain some of her better subjects.
Of course, extracurriculars look good on a transcript, and Bon Bon knew she needed something. Lyra was only too happy to oblige, and after some big golden puppy eyes, dragged her right into the broadcasting club for what would soon become the Bon Bon & Lyra Show (a billing she, to this day, wishes Lyra would flip around).
Oh, and one of the students turned into a huge fire demon and blasted a wall off the side of the school. Then several more students turned into weird magical horse hybrids and put her in a massive crater in the courtyard. In front of the whole school.
Bon Bon is still kind of learning to deal with that. The Roleplayer's Corner

#Sample RP ;Bon Bon slouched into the soft pleather booth, setting a small soda and a tray of assorted foodstuffs in front of her. School had just gotten out, and Lyra was taking her out for some of Lyra's favorite food—Bon Bon was more a fan of Italian, but she'd grown very fond of Chinese takeout over the years. Were it anyone else she'd be sitting all proper and putting the napkin on her lap and being nice and dainty with her meal, but she was with her best friend and she knew Lyra couldn't give less of a crap if she tried.
Then came the ritual. It went as follows: Bon Bon quickly took out her chopsticks and broke then, in clear view of Lyra, in the hopes that one day she'd slow down and watch her do it first. Lyra always pulled from the middle, and of course that split 'em wrong; Bon Bon pulled from the base and stuck her finger between them, snapping it nice and even. Then she tucked one stick into the crook of her thumb, braced the other against the first and second knuckles of her index finger, tapped them on the table to get them even, and...
...watched, as Lyra dropped her chicken right into the teriyaki sauce. She rolled her eyes, but with a smile on her face. Oh well. There was always next time. She started eating, quietly, and watched Lyra's attempts with a growing mixture of raised eyebrows and bit lips. Eventually, she got out the little chopstick helper, and Bon Bon gave her a small, "better luck tomorrow" nod.
"Thish ish sho good. Hows yours Bon Bon?"
She chewed and swallowed before answering Lyra's question. "Delicious ~ here, try a little of this orange chicken." She picked up a few pieces in her chopsticks and moved them to one of Lyra's plates, slyly sneaking some spicy sweetpeas over along with them. "And I'll grab some of your noodles? Fair trade?"
Of course, Bon could give less of a toss whether it was fair. Lyra was getting some more veggies on that plate whether she ate them or not.
